My Very First Football Game During My Freshman Year

My Very First Football Game During My Freshman Year

Receiving your acceptance letter from your top choice university can be both exciting and nerve-wrecking. For me, it was a little bit of both. I knew that if I was accepted to NC State, it was a no-brainer. I was going to make the move to Raleigh, NC but it wasn’t as simple as just making up my mind. There was plenty I had to do before I started my college career.

The very first thing I did? Confirmed my enrollment. I knew that NC State was the school for me so as soon as the excitement wore off, I logged onto my wolfPAW account, which I had become very familiar with and submitted my deposit to secure my spot in the Wolfpack family. While that can easily seem like the final step towards making the commitment, it was only the beginning.

Applying for financial assistance was a huge part in my preparation for college. By the priority deadline, which happens to be March 1st, my FAFSA was completed with NC State in mind. Of course this was not the only step I took to make sure I was financially prepared. I also continued to search for outside scholarships as well as applied by the first application deadline to be considered for other financial awards.

I completed all of my document steps first. I sent my health records, confirmed my orientation registration along with putting my final transcript submission and test scores on my immediate to-do list.  However, I had one more huge decision to make. Where was I going to live? I must admit, although I knew how important finding housing was, this was something I didn’t sign up for right away. I did have the opportunity to visit NC State prior to applying but I just did not have the chance to explore all of the dorms and of course being from out-of-state I had no way to visit before I needed to make my decision. One of my biggest resources to help me choose the dorm was the online virtual profile of each residence hall. It helped me narrow down my choices but still left me a little undecided.

So what finally helped me make my decision? Well, as time was winding down I happened to receive a student call from NC State to check up on my preparation progress. At this point I had completed most of my responsibilities, but I did ask “Where should I live on campus?” The caller helped me decide on one of the Tri-Towers. So, I blindly created top three preferences with only the tri-towers and luckily got my first choice: Carroll! It was a great decision. Without her help, I would have been totally lost finding the right place to live my first year of college.

Although there is ultimately more than a few things you must complete before arriving to NC State. The best part is knowing you have help right at your fingertips! NC State’s website is full of lists, tips and other helpful information to help you get the ball rolling on your own! And most importantly take time to celebrate! Preparing to be part of the Wolfpack is an awesome journey!
